Large Antique Japanese Satsuma Moriage Vase - 33cm Immortals & Elephant
Stunning large Japanese Satsuma Moriage earthenware vase, dating from the late Meiji / early Taisho period (circa 1910-1920).
This is a high-impact decorative piece standing at 33cm tall (approx 17cm wide), featuring a traditional scene of Arhats / Buddhist Immortals in detailed relief.
Key Features:
Moriage Technique: Beautiful raised/beaded enamel work throughout that gives the scene a 3D texture.
Elephant Handles: Distinctive figural elephant head handles on the neck.
Makers Mark: Features the red Shimazu family crest on the base alongside the artist's signature.
Earthy Palette: Classic deep chocolate brown and cream tones with gold gilt accents.
Condition Report: In very good vintage condition for its age. There is some minor rubbing to the gold gilding (typical for pieces of this era) and natural fine crazing to the glaze. No visible chips, cracks, or structural repairs. Please see all photos for close-up details.
