Vintage Japanese Ceramic Shishi Lion / Foo Dog Ashtray & Incense Holder
Up for auction is a charming mid-century ceramic novelty piece depicting a traditional Japanese Shishi (guardian lion / Foo dog). Finished in a rich, high-gloss amber brown glaze, this versatile piece was originally designed as an open-mouth cigarette ashtray and rest, but today works brilliantly as a cone incense burner, match holder, or unique desk trinket dish.
Origin: Japan (Mid-20th Century, c. 1950s–1970s Export Wares)
Design: Molded earthenware with detailed mane swirls, raised tail, and open-mouth resting notch.
Dimensions: Approximately 13 cm (length) x 9.5 cm (height).
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with a smooth glaze finish, no chips, cracks, or restoration seen. Unmarked base.
