Mid-Century Japanese Black Lacquer Music Box – Mt Fuji & Mother of Pearl Inlay – Working Order

Offered for auction is a striking mid-20th century Japanese black lacquer jewellery or trinket music box. The piece features a detailed hand-painted scene on the exterior depicting Mt. Fuji, pagodas, and sailboats, surrounded by a border of crushed abalone shell/mother-of-pearl (raden) inlay.

The main lid opens to reveal an internal mirror with a reverse-painted Mount Fuji landscape framed by crushed orange velvet lining. Inside, double-folding pop-up doors open to expose a lined ring roll, storage compartments, and a working mechanical musical movement.

Condition: In full working order (musical movement winds and plays smoothly). Overall very good vintage condition with light wear and minor lacquer chips along the edges consistent with age and use. Key not included.
